Ruinart is a low-profile, yet select, Champagne house which is steeped in history. It was founded in 1729 by Nicolas Ruinart in the city of Reims, the year after a Royal Decree in 1728, whereby Louis XV gave his consent for sparkling wines to be shipped in baskets containing 50 to 100 bottles. This opened the gates of Europe to Champagne and thus makes Ruinart the oldest Champagne House.
The distinctive clear bottle for Ruinart’s Blanc de Blancs is based on an 18th century original. Its elegant Chardonnay persona is harmonious and elegant, capturing the House style. It is one of the finest blanc de blancs on the market, luminous of hue, rounded of form and lengthy in the memory.

A first time appearance not only to our social media but also to the shop! A Tokaj! Let's have a read about this gorgeously sweet little beauty.
István Szepsy of St Tamás is intent on putting Dry Furmint on the world map and in its collective glass. Based in the village of Mád, in the heart of the Tokaji region, he works with vineyards shaped by volcanic eruptions millions of years ago. World famous for the exquisite sweet wine that is produced here, István knows that this volcanic terroir is his key to proving that his dry wines are just as good. He creates wines with unique flavours somewhere between Loire Chenin and Chablis in style, that are refreshing with an underlying minerality that feels like it comes directly up from those ancient volcanic soils.
The village of Mád, the most prestigious in the region of Tokaj is still composed of many plots of small growers, the aim has been to raise the viticultural standards of the growers by guaranteeing a purchase of their grapes at an above market price dependent on their working with the Mád viticulturalists. This ensures an excellent supply of high quality grapes. The vineyards for these wines sit on the south and western sides of the hill overlooking the village and are planted on predominantly red clay, zeolite Malota and quartz rhyolite soils.

It might be a little on the cold side but, even then, who could resist a cold class of crisp white? Certainly not us so this weekend it's a bit of this on the menu!
Hush Heath Estate, situated in Kent, dates back to 1503. At the heart of the property is a Tudor manor surrounded by 162 hectares of perfectly manicured gardens, vineyards and apple orchards. Forward thinking Richard Balfour-Lynn first planted vineyards on the property in 2002, with the aim of making England's finest sparkling Rosé, Balfour Brut. Today, Hush Heath's 15 hectares of vineyards and 8 hectares of apple trees are meticulously and sustainably managed by a family of viticulturists.
They recently launched a non-vintage, Leslie’s Reserve, and the Hush Heath range comprises of still wines, Skye's English Chardonnay, Manor Pinot Noir and Nanette's English Rosé. Their orchards also produce Jake's Kentish cider and, a unique new product, a Sparkling English Apple Wine. These are all made from estate grown fruit by winemakers Owen Elias and Victoria Ash. Owen Elias, both winemaker and cider maker, is a four-time winemaker of the year by the UK Vineyards Association and has nearly 20 years experience making English wines.

Brilliant white gold in the glass with a clean nose of citrus, thyme and pineapple. A lively acidity is balanced by rich, ripe grapefruit, citrus and apple flavours. It is a wine with great length, finishing with saline, herbal notes typical of the Hush Heath style.
Honestly some of the best English wine we've ever come across. Christmas day is clearly sorted already. Cheers!

Rinazzo rinazzo. We love this stuff and have done for a while now. Syrah from Italy isn't something you find so often. A little read into it is most definitely necessary!
In 1880, Cantine Pellegrino was established by Paolo Pellegrino, a wine grower in Marsala, located on the northwest coast of Sicily. Today, this family-owned company is the region’s leader, with over 300 hectares of vineyards and a range of Marsala DOC, Pantelleria Passito and Moscato wines. Wine has been made here for thousands of years, yet the British bolstered the success of Marsala as a wine capital. Instrumental in developing fortified wines from Portugal’s Oporto and Spain’s Jerez, the firm sought similar products elsewhere.
In 1773, English trader John Woodhouse stopped in Marsala and was charmed by the local wine. Thus began the production of the fortified wine, Marsala. All Pellegrino wines are produced with indigenous grapes brought by the earliest settlers and which are rarely seen in other regions.

Floral notes of roses blend with aromas of pomegranate and red berries, with notes of black pepper. On the palate, this wine is mellow and well-structured, with spicy notes of cloves, pleasant hints of marasca cherries and plums and notes of rosemary.
They don't mess about down at Pellegrino. They put in the work and out comes beauties like this. Cheers!
