C. Vicchiomaggio 'Agostino Petri' Chianti Classico Riserva 2021
Vicchiomaggio Castle, once named Vicchio dei Longobardi (Village of the Longobards), dates back to about 1400. Located on the top of a hill which dominates the Greve Valley not far from both Siena and Florence. Over the centuries this has demonstrated to be an extremely strategic position. Infact, during the middleage it had been used for the defence of Florence during its feuds with the city of Siena.
The climate in Greve in Chianti is warm and temperate. The rain in Greve in Chianti falls mostly in the winter, with relatively little rain in the summer.
Calcareous clay is found in substantial quantity in the soils around Greve in Chianti; However, an abundance of fragmented rock in the form of stones and pebbles primarily of limestone is a common aspect of the Chianti Classico zone.
Riserva on a Chianti just means that the wine spends a minimum of two years (in oak) and three months (in the bottle) aging. The alcohol content must also be at least 12.5%. Chianti Riserva is also a great candidate for additional bottle aging, depending on the producer and vintage.
Kept in small barrels – 225 lt – for six months, it is then transferred into large barrels – 25-75 hl – and kept for nine more months
