The Aussies are back in town with this beautifully designed #grenache. The Tithing is a new one for us and it's exactly what the doctor ordered.
Willunga 100’s focus is very much on premium Grenache, which has been driven by winemaker Mike Farmilo (who has almost 40 years of experience working in McLaren Vale) and consultant Tim James. Mike and Tim spend a lot of time working with the growers to ensure the quality of fruit is up to their exacting standards.
‘The Tithing’ is made only in the best years and is aged in French oak hogsheads, which are larger than barriques, so as to avoid oak masking the delicate aromatics of Grenache. The 2013 vintage is from a single vineyard in Seaview where terra rossa soils mix with sand to give great structure to the wine. The 2013 is outstanding: complex and intense with ripe black fruit and savoury overtones. The 2016 is from low yielding 60-year-old vines in the DiFabio vineyard in Blewitt Springs. It is rich and concentrated with superb length and freshness. Two other Grenaches complete Willunga 100’s genuflection before the altar of this superb variety: the Willunga 100 Grenache is a perfumed and spicy expression of the variety, with great freshness; while the Grenache Rosé is pale, dry and deliciously supple.

A concentrated, rich, complex wine. Intense red fruit with powerful savoury overtones shows just how good 'old vine' Grenache from McLaren Vale can be. Ripe, persistent tannins give the wonderfully balanced fruit great length and intensity
If you're a bit of an old world snob or just haven't found a new world grenache that's to your taste then this might be the one to change your mind. Cheers!
